Two On Two.rpl
The "Two On Two.rpl" is from the first mission in the William Tell set.
Take off is as normal with Hornet One tucked in
behind Hornet Two. Hornet One waits until Hornet Two reacts to the bogeys.
Watch the way the bogeys will only switch on the radar as they pass.
Hornet One begins a smooth pull-up over the top
into an Immelman and targets the bogey nearest Hornet Two. He kills it with
his M61 Vulcan cannon as Hornet Two reverses on the second bogey.
Hornet One then allows Hornet Two to fight the
bogey and stays low... keeping the fight in sight. Hornet Two "bingos"and dives on out for home. As he dives he drags the second bogey down with
him.
Hornet One accelerates and comes up fast behind
the bogey. He takes a maximum range shot at the bogey and hits it with one
burst. Fight over.

Hornet Two and One take off with Hornet One slightly
in front. They begin a long ingress to the IP and catch up with the F-16s
as they turn onto Waypoint 2.
On the way to the Supergun complex a SAM site paints
Hornet One. He is straight into afterburner and advances, firing a HARM
from under 10 miles.
The HARM hits and the SAM dies in the air. They
flight presses onto the target and kills the AAA around it... as the UH-60s
arrive.
Another SAM site illuminates and fires on a F-16.
Does it get hit? Hornet does not know, nor care, and heads on in. He accelerates
and shoots his last HARM as a SAM flies across his 2 o'clock. The site dies...
Hornet One takes Hornet Two into formation and
they press South again to CAP between Waypoint 2 and 1. Suddenly two radar
spikes appear from the South... Mig-23s! They gain some alt and Hornet One
orders Two to press on the trailing Mig. The lead Mig fires a heat seeker
at One who rolls and it misses. The Mig avoids his AIM-9 so One goes vertical,
rolls, and attacks the Mig with his gun. He shoots a few times and finally
scores.... "mission successful" comes across the radio.
Two reports that he is low on fuel... One tells
him to continue on home which was a big mistake.
More Migs arrive and target the returning helos
as Hornet Three and Four bomb the target at Waypoint 2. One advances on
a pair and then four Migs... he hurriedly calls Two back into formation
with him.
With only a AIM-9 and an AMRAAM left One makes
a choice to ignore the lead pair who will no doubt, and seem to be, targeted
by Three and Four.
The second pair lock him up and he fires both missiles
at each bogey from 4 and 5 miles out. He accelerates into the bogey who
turns right... and it opens up! Two missiles come off the rails. The first
misses... the second, fired from within 1 mile, leaves no options. One should
have broke low. The missile gets a proximity hit and One is out of the fight.
He avoids an ejection and choose to make a forced
landing in a burning aircraft... not normally a wise thing to do. As he
lands a Mig-21 makes repeated attacks on him from high 6 but misses. One
notices more air bursts off to his 9 o'clock, low on the horizon, but he
does not care too much. It's going to be a long walk home...

Hornet One follows Hornet Two as they launch from
Qasumah. They ingress low and at 420KIAS past the H2 Airbase... which scrambles
two Mig-21s to challenge them.
Hornet One waits until Hornet Two reacts and selects
his own target which is the first Mig off of the runway. Hornet One blasts
the AAA site at the base with a HARM to stop the AAA hitting Hornet Two
if the fight goes low.
As the second Mig takes to the air Hornet One waits
until it is pointing right at him then fires an AMRAAM.
Hornet Two splashes his Mig... the AMRAAM from
Hornet One misses so the fight turns into a knife fight with guns. Hornet
One is lucky to survive he but gets the Mig.
They press onto Al Basrah Airbase as two F-16s
from Qasumah pass them by on the way to hit the runways.
Hornet Three and Four are observed in the distance
as they shoot the AAA sites at that base. IQAAF fighters launch to intercept
the flight... Hornet One ignores the SAM and bogeys and presses on to the
target at the base. He seeks out the TU-20 with the FLIR and lays in a MK82LGB
right on top of it.
However the LGB misses! The F-16s lay waste to
the runways to stop the TU-20 from taking off and it grinds to a halt at
the end of the taxiway.
A serious fight develops over the base, during
which Hornet One seems to kill two more bogeys. The skies clear and he is
the only survivor as well as a SU-27 who extends away South East.
Hornet reverses and hit the Tu-20 with another
LGB which ends the mission successfully. He goes low and follows the SU-27,
coming around behind him and shooting him.
Onto Safwan for recovery and he seems to be the
only survivor of the fights... Hornet Two is long gone, maybe Three and
Four , and the F-16s... it was a massacre. Why did the tower at Safwan tell
him to "clear base"? Who survived to recover there? |
